Looking into a Collie
Multiple generations are familiar with the tri colored rough coated collie named Lassie. How could you not fall in love with the incredibly smart dog on the big screen. Collies are definately smart, however they most likely not going to show you where Timmy is. Collies are herding dogs by nature and actually make excellent family dogs if you are willing to wear off the energy they posses. Collies to tend to be barkers so city living may not be the best depending on the temperament of the specific collie you have. If you are interested is owning a collie, you should really read a collies owners manual. Collies tend to have a number of idiosyncrasies to their care. For example rough coated collies shouldn't be shaved during the summer. Their coat, though it looks uncomfortable, can keep them cool during the summer and warm during the winter. But that being said they can easily over heat in very hot weather. There are two types of collies, which are named for their coat type. One is the short haired smooth collie, and the other is the long haired rough coated collie. The long coated collie will require a lot more grooming to keep their coats from matting. You should consider both a deshedding tool and a demating comb for rough coated collies. You will need to plan to groom your rough coated collie at least once a week when sheading is heavy. They are great for herding sheep and some areas actually provide this activity for dog owners. They will help teach you and your dog how to do it. There are also a number of competitions for herding if you are interested.http://bluerose.jamesloving.com/
